Hebrew Roots
During the 3:00 AM tour of Nachlaot (see posting below), the gabbai at the Syrian Great Synagogue explained how the residents of the Old City of Jerusalem in the 1800s had to leave and set up residence outside the walls because of a cholera epidemic. I never realized that the word was pronounced in Hebrew "choleh-ra." The Hebrew word for sick is "choleh." Does the word "cholera" originally come from Hebrew?
